ENDRESS ESS D 15/15 – 15 kWh mobile battery storage
The ENDRESS ESS D 15/15 is a professional mobile lithium battery energy storage system with 15 kWh storage capacity and 15 kVA rated apparent power. This three-phase 400/230 V system supplies suitable construction, industrial and event equipment. Battery operation produces no local engine exhaust; a compatible ENDRESS Rental generator can be integrated into an intelligent hybrid power solution.
Key specifications
ENDRESS ESS D 15/15: professional temporary power without a continuously running generator
The ENDRESS ESS D 15/15 combines 15 kWh lithium battery storage with professional three-phase power electronics. It is designed for mobile energy supply, including night and tunnel construction, events, temporary site cabins and industrial applications. Suitable loads can operate from the battery without keeping a combustion engine running continuously.
The system provides 400/230 V, 50 Hz and 15 kVA rated apparent power. Active power depends on power factor, while ENDRESS publications distinguish continuous and overload operating conditions. The current ENDRESS overview lists peak apparent power up to 37.5 kVA, depending on documented revision and time limits. Proper sizing must account for phase balance and starting currents.
With a compatible ENDRESS Rental Line RS generator, the ESS can form a hybrid system. While running, the generator powers loads and recharges the battery. Suitable remote-start and load-control arrangements can reduce generator running hours and low-load operation. Actual fuel savings depend on load profile and installation.
Benefits and equipment
400/230 V output for suitable commercial equipment.
Power without a continuously running combustion engine, particularly useful at sensitive sites.
Compatible ENDRESS Rental installations can incorporate remote start and load management.
Residual-current and other electrical protection features appropriate to the configured unit.
1,200 × 800 mm base for professional logistics and warehousing.
Transport-friendly frame for crane and forklift handling.
Large service doors and filtered ventilation air paths.
Battery and electrical parameter monitoring; remote communication by equipment option.
Technical highlights for project sizing
Separate power output, peak demand and capacity
The 15 kWh battery capacity represents stored energy, whereas 15 kVA is rated apparent power. The exact active power and overload capability specified for the delivered unit, plus phase loading and inrush currents, determine suitability.
Integrated use with ENDRESS Rental generators
In a compatible hybrid installation the battery complements a Rental Line RS generator. The generator can recharge the battery while running and deliver energy to loads, allowing efficient operating periods. Lower generator size or running time may be achievable depending on system design; not guaranteed for every use.
Three-phase sockets and electrical protection
Manufacturer material lists two 230 V / 16 A outlets, CEE 400 V outlets rated 32, 63 and 125 A, and a CEE 400 V / 125 A inlet. Socket current ratings are not a guarantee of their simultaneous maximum loading. RCD type, earthing and fault disconnection must be confirmed for the installation.
Rugged construction for professional rental
The unit has an IP54-rated control panel and a powder-coated enclosure. A lifting eye, continuous forklift pockets and its 1,200 × 800 mm base support handling of the approximately 700 kg system. Filtered airflow is designed for dusty environments.
Battery management, charging and monitoring
ENDRESS specifies approximately 1.4 hours charging time. The lithium-ion storage is electronically monitored, and manufacturer figures include around 6,000 cycles at specified conditions (80% DoD). Monitoring covers parameters such as battery capacity, input and output currents and voltage. Actual charging depends on supply, temperature and operating conditions.
Backup system design and safety
The ESS D can be integrated into properly designed temporary or emergency power systems. It is not automatically an uninterrupted UPS. Automatic mains transfer or connection to building wiring requires compliant switching, earthing and protective equipment.
Suitable applications
Quieter temporary supply for compatible tools and site lighting.
Battery-powered lighting, audio and infrastructure equipment.
Energy for suitable site offices and mobile workspaces.
Complement generators with load and battery management.
Temporary power for maintenance and infrastructure projects.
Flexible power for compatible three-phase and single-phase loads.
How long will the ESS D power connected equipment?
At 15 kWh nominal storage and a constant average 5 kW active load, a simplified upper calculation gives 3 hours before conversion losses and battery reserves. Real runtime is lower and depends on demand, conversion efficiency, charge level and optional generator operation.

Frequently asked questions about the ENDRESS ESS D 15/15
What is the difference between kVA and kWh?
15 kVA is the rated apparent power; 15 kWh is the amount of stored energy. Runtime depends on actual active power and system losses.
Can the ESS D 15/15 run without a generator?
Yes, compatible loads can be supplied from the battery. A generator is an optional source of power and charging.
Which outlets are provided?
The product range lists two 230 V / 16 A outlets, CEE 400 V sockets rated 32, 63 and 125 A and a 400 V / 125 A inlet. Confirm the actual configuration and protective devices.
Can I connect an ENDRESS generator?
Yes, with a compatible Rental Line RS model, controls and connection equipment. This can reduce running hours under suitable loads.
Does it provide automatic uninterrupted backup power?
Such use requires dedicated design, transfer controls and protection. Uninterrupted UPS operation is not universally guaranteed.
How long does recharging take?
The manufacturer lists around 1.4 hours under appropriate charging conditions. Actual duration depends on power source, temperature and demand.
Can battery capacity be increased?
ENDRESS documentation describes parallel capacity expansion options. Check the model and required equipment before planning such a system.
