BYD Battery-Box Premium HVM 2.76 – 2.76 kWh Module
The BYD Battery-Box Premium HVM 2.76 is a 51.2 V lithium iron phosphate high-voltage battery module providing 2.76 kWh. Three to eight compatible modules and the matching Battery Control Unit form a 8.28–22.08 kWh storage tower. A single module cannot be used independently without the BCU, system base and an approved inverter.
Key specifications
Description and system configuration
The HVM series stores solar energy in modular high-voltage towers. BYD uses patented internal plug connections that enable stacking without loose internal battery cables. A single HVM 2.76 module can form part of a new system or an approved extension, but the appropriate BCU and inverter generation must be verified.
Complete systems with 3/4/5/6/7/8 modules provide 8.28/11.04/13.80/16.56/19.32/22.08 kWh reference usable DC energy. Up to three matching towers may operate in parallel when the full configuration is approved. Actual AC energy, backup operation and power ratings depend on the inverter.
Cobalt-free LFP chemistry is designed for long service life. The manufacturer's IP55 figure refers to a correctly assembled system. BYD documents two electrically equivalent module revisions weighing 35 or 38 kg depending on their cell version.
Benefits and equipment
Modular expansion in predictable capacity steps.
Thermally stable lithium iron phosphate chemistry.
No loose internal battery cables in the completed stack.
System energy from 8.28 to 22.08 kWh.
Up to three approved matching system groups.
Suitable indoor or outdoor installation per manual.
Store solar generation in a compatible system.
Backup with suitable inverter and transfer equipment.
Technical highlights and considerations
Module, BCU and inverter must match
This listing is for a single battery module, not a complete storage system. BYD requires three to eight modules per HVM tower and the matching BCU. BCU generations, including BCU 2.0, must not be substituted without manufacturer approval.
High-voltage DC is not a 230 V outlet
Nominal tower voltage ranges from 153.6 V with three modules to 409.6 V with eight. A suitable inverter provides AC power. Dangerous DC voltage requires qualified professionals for installation and extensions.
Capacity variants and parallel operation
BYD's 8.28–22.08 kWh figures refer to usable DC energy under test conditions. Up to three matching towers may reach approximately 66.2 kWh subject to controls, inverter and firmware. Not every installation automatically supports the largest configuration.
Weight differs by revision
BYD lists two HVM 2.76 revisions weighing 35 kg or 38 kg with identical electrical ratings. Retrofitting requires checks on mechanical compatibility, BCU firmware and current BYD guidance.
Electrical and protection ratings
Manufacturer figures for the complete HVM system include 50 A maximum output current and 75 A for three seconds. IP55, CAN/RS485 and ≥96% round-trip efficiency are system characteristics, not a standalone AC output rating of the module.
Solar storage and tax treatment
As in the original SEV listing, the module may be part of a PV installation. The 0% German VAT treatment under section 12(3) UStG applies only if the statutory conditions for the specific transaction are satisfied.
Suitable applications
Store solar energy with an approved BYD installation.
Add capacity after verifying the BCU revision.
Store solar production for later consumption.
Size storage against actual load profiles.
Only with approved backup inverters and protections.
Cobalt-free LFP modules in approved configurations.
Before ordering
One HVM module is not a complete system. The product price does not automatically include the BCU, base or inverter.

Frequently asked questions
Can a single module operate alone?
No. At least three modules and the correct BCU are required.
How much energy does it store?
2.76 kWh nominal.
How many modules per stack?
Three to eight per approved HVM tower.
What tower capacities are possible?
8.28–22.08 kWh reference usable DC energy.
Do I need a controller?
Yes, a compatible BCU, base and approved inverter are required.
How much does one module weigh?
35 or 38 kg depending on cell revision.
Can different BCU revisions be mixed?
Not without verification against manufacturer approvals.
When does 0% VAT apply?
Only when the qualifying legal requirements for the PV supply apply.
