LYS W5-E 5.5 RCBO – professional 5 kW mobile battery storage

The LYS W5-E 5.5 RCBO portable power station combines 5,000 W continuous output and 5,040 Wh LiFePO4 energy storage in a rugged IP54 enclosure. A 230 V Schuko socket, a 230 V CEE 32 A output and an integrated 30 mA RCBO make it suitable for compatible tools, construction projects, events and mobile work. Solar charging, fast mains charging and optional expansion batteries support flexible power without a running combustion engine on site.

LYS W5-E RCBO: professional 230 V power station with CEE output and solar charging

The LYS W5-E 5.5 IP54 RCBO mobile energy storage system is a single-phase portable power source for professional use. It supplies 5 kW rated output as a pure sine wave for compatible power tools, temporary workstations, lighting, sales stands and other electrical equipment. The 7 kW peak is available only very briefly (up to 200 ms in the W5-E specification); connected loads and inrush currents must remain within the device ratings.

Its 48 V, 105 Ah lithium iron phosphate battery stores 5,040 Wh and generates no local combustion exhaust during battery operation. A solid metal housing, large wheels and a fold-down towing handle make the approximately 68 kg unit easier to move around a site. The IP54 enclosure protects against dust and splashing water but is not designed for immersion or prolonged unprotected exposure to heavy rain.

This particular version provides one 230 V Schuko socket and one 230 V / 32 A CEE outlet, together with a combined residual-current and overcurrent protective device (RCBO, stated as 30 mA in the SEV listing). A 32 A socket does not increase the inverter's combined continuous output above 5 kW. Electrical earthing, protection measures and the relevant supply configuration must be assessed for each use.

Technical features in real-world use

230 V CEE output and RCBO protection

Alongside the Schuko socket, this RCBO version includes a single-phase 230 V / 32 A CEE connector. Its RCBO combines residual-current and overcurrent protection; the SEV listing specifies a nominal residual current of 30 mA. This does not replace checks of protective earth, supply configuration, disconnection requirements and site wiring by a qualified electrician. The total continuous output remains limited to 5 kW.

Fast AC charging and solar input with MPPT

Charging from a suitable 230 V supply supports 2,500 W fast charging or 1,250 W slow charging. The product description quotes approximately 2.5 hours for a full fast charge under suitable conditions. The MPPT solar input supports 12–150 V DC and up to 2,100 W. Six 240 W panels are cited as an example in existing product text, subject to the correct electrical configuration. Actual solar charging time depends on sunlight, modules and wiring.

LiFePO4 storage, expandable up to 20.16 kWh

The built-in battery is rated at 5,040 Wh. Up to three additional 5,040 Wh S5-BAT modules can be connected via the dedicated expansion interface, according to the product documentation. Nominal total storage then reaches 20,160 Wh (20.16 kWh). The extra batteries are not included. Expansion increases stored energy, not the 5 kW continuous output of the inverter.

EPS transfer is not a guaranteed UPS

Technical documentation describes a transfer from mains to battery operation within up to 20 ms. This backup function is appropriate only for compatible equipment and a correctly designed installation. Sensitive IT, medical or safety equipment requiring uninterrupted power must use a dedicated suitable UPS; connecting the device to building wiring requires appropriate transfer and protection equipment.

LCD display, Bluetooth and safety systems

The LCD displays battery state of charge, input/output power, operating condition and alerts. The existing SEV description also lists a Bluetooth app for checking status. Protective electronics cover overload, short circuits, voltage faults and abnormal temperatures. Manual 50/60 Hz settings are mentioned in the original listing; verify configuration before use outside the standard 50 Hz operating mode.

Mobility, included equipment and low-maintenance use

A sturdy wheeled enclosure and folding towing handle help move the approximately 68 kg battery storage unit. The listed package includes the W5-E, AC charging cable, Anderson-to-MC4 solar adapter, user manual and warranty card. Included accessories may vary by revision. Battery operation needs no fuel refilling or running engine.

Suitable applications

Construction sites and trades

Temporary 230 V power for compatible tools, job-site lighting and trades work.

Mobile workshops and market stands

Flexible supply for service vans, temporary retail stands and commercial use.

Film sets, events and outdoor venues

Quiet energy for compatible lighting, audio and production equipment.

Motorhomes, tiny houses and off-grid use

Battery supply with mains or suitable solar charging; check electrical installation and earthing requirements.

Agriculture and municipal operations

Power for compatible pumps, equipment and mobile service or maintenance work.

Temporary backup power

Bridging short grid disturbances for suitable loads; not sold as an uninterrupted UPS.

How long will a 5.04 kWh battery charge last?

For a rough estimate, divide 5.04 kWh by average power consumption in kW. At a constant 1,000 W this gives about five hours; at 2,500 W, approximately two hours – before conversion losses, standby consumption and reserves. The theoretical figure at the full 5 kW continuous output is about one hour. Solar input or extra S5-BAT modules can change operating time.

Frequently asked questions about LYS W5-E 5.5 RCBO

What does RCBO mean on the LYS W5-E?

An RCBO combines residual-current protection and overload/short-circuit protection. The listed device includes a 30 mA RCBO, but safe operation still requires correct earthing, supply configuration and electrical assessment.

Does the 32 A CEE outlet provide 400 V three-phase power?

No. This model has a 230 V single-phase CEE 32 A outlet. Overall continuous output is 5 kW; it does not supply 400 V three-phase power.

How long will it run a 1,000 W load?

Using 5.04 kWh rated capacity, theoretical runtime at a constant 1 kW is about five hours. Actual usable runtime is lower due to conversion losses and the device's own power consumption.

Can it recharge from solar panels?

Yes. Its MPPT PV input accepts 12–150 V DC and up to 2,100 W. Panels and wiring must remain within the voltage and current limits; solar production varies with weather.

How long does AC charging take?

The fast charge setting accepts up to 2,500 W. According to the product specification, a full fast charge takes around 2.5 hours with a suitable mains supply.

Can extra S5-BAT batteries be connected?

Yes. Adding up to three separately sold S5-BAT packs increases nominal stored energy from 5.04 kWh to 20.16 kWh. Inverter continuous power remains 5 kW.

Is the EPS feature a UPS for sensitive IT equipment?

No. Up to 20 ms transfer is specified, but zero-interruption power is not guaranteed. Critical loads may require an appropriately rated dedicated UPS.

Can the W5-E be used outdoors?

Its IP54 enclosure protects against dust and water splashes. Protect it against heavy rain, standing water and excessive heat.

What is included?

The existing SEV listing names the power station, AC charging cable, Anderson-to-MC4 adapter, operating instructions and warranty card. Confirm the actual supplied accessories at dispatch.

W5-E RCBO or standard model – which configuration?

This model has one Schuko outlet plus a single-phase 230 V / 32 A CEE socket with RCBO protection. The separate standard W5-E listing offers different sockets. The S5-BAT expansion battery provides additional energy for longer projects. Confirm the exact electrical protection and outlet configuration for the chosen version.

Need mobile power with RCBO protection?

We can help with power sizing, outlet selection, safe electrical protection, charging plans and choosing between W5-E and expansion batteries.
