LYS POWER · LITHIUM EXPANSION BATTERY
LYS S5-BAT – 5.04 kWh expansion battery for W5-E
Extend the runtime of your compatible LYS W5-E power station with the LYS S5-BAT expansion battery. Each 48 V LiFePO4 module rated at 5,040 Wh adds 5.04 kWh of nominal storage. According to the existing product documentation, up to three expansion batteries can be connected through the designated Power Pack Connector, increasing total nominal capacity to 20.16 kWh. A 0.8 m connection cable is included according to the SEV product listing.
Key specifications
More storage for the LYS W5-E – longer runtime without another inverter
The LYS S5-BAT expansion battery increases the stored energy available to the W5-E 5.5 portable power station. It is not a standalone power station: it connects to the W5-E through the proprietary expansion interface. Compatible 230 V equipment can therefore run for longer at a similar load – whether on construction sites, at temporary workstations, film and event locations or in off-grid applications.
Each module provides a nominal 5,040 Wh (5.04 kWh). The W5-E already contains an internal battery with the same nominal capacity. Adding one, two or three S5-BAT modules gives a combined nominal capacity of 10.08, 15.12 or 20.16 kWh, respectively. Actual runtime will depend on average load, battery state and conversion losses.
The lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) chemistry supports repeated charging and discharging. The current SEV product metafield states 3,500 cycles without specifying the associated test conditions. Integrated battery protection and energy management support use with the W5-E; the S5-BAT does not include its own 230 V output or a separate 5 kW inverter.
Benefits and technical highlights
Each S5-BAT increases nominal stored energy by 5.04 kWh.
The 5.04 kWh host and up to three S5-BAT units provide flexible capacity expansion.
Lithium iron phosphate cells designed for repeated charging and discharging.
Direct system connection to a compatible W5-E through its designated expansion interface.
Protection against overcurrent, short circuits, deep discharge and abnormal temperatures according to product documentation.
Compatible connecting cable included according to the SEV listing.
More energy for longer working shifts, events and temporary backup use.
Robust approximately 44 kg battery pack; follow its IP21 installation and storage requirements.
How storage capacity grows with each additional module
All figures are nominal battery capacities, not guaranteed usable energy. Every configuration requires a compatible W5-E power station.
S5-BAT in practice: connection, safety and runtime
Seamless integration with W5-E battery management
The expansion pack connects through the proprietary Power Pack Connector. The existing product description says the W5-E recognises and manages additional packs through the system battery management. According to the SEV summary, the included connecting cable is 0.8 m long. Check connector compatibility and connection requirements before commissioning.
Energy, not extra output power: what actually changes?
The S5-BAT increases available energy in kWh, not output power in kW. The W5-E inverter and its sockets still supply the connected loads. Even with three extra packs, the host unit's rated 5 kW continuous output remains the governing limit. Always check starting currents and continuous power demand.
Important protection distinction: S5-BAT IP21 versus W5-E IP54
The S5-BAT is specified as IP21 in the SEV product metafields. This is not equivalent to the higher IP54 rating of the W5-E host. Keep the battery module dry, protected from water spray and severe dust, and out of direct weather exposure. The original product text's general description of outdoor robustness does not establish an IP54 rating for the battery pack.
Safe connection and handling
The original SEV safety instructions state that the S5-BAT must be connected or disconnected only while the W5-E is switched off. Contacts must be kept clean, dry and free from metal objects. The battery is intended for the compatible W5-E system, not for parallel use with other energy-storage systems or improvised adapters.
Longer operating periods for mobile and temporary power
Extra battery capacity is useful when equipment, lighting, heating or cooling systems must run for longer. Loads must be connected to the W5-E, not to the S5-BAT itself. Actual runtime and power continuity depend on the load profile, charging conditions and protection requirements of the whole system.
Suitable applications
Run compatible tools, test equipment and work lights through the W5-E for longer.
More stored energy for lighting, audio and production equipment across longer sessions.
Extra energy for mobile maintenance, repairs and temporary work locations.
Longer supply to suitable appliances within the W5-E's electrical output limits.
Additional energy for temporary off-grid use with the W5-E as the required host.
Increased storage for suitable backup applications; transfer and protective functions depend on the host system.
How much extra runtime does an S5-BAT provide?
As a rough guide, one additional 5.04 kWh S5-BAT at a constant average 1 kW load represents up to five extra hours before conversion losses, standby draw and battery reserves. Two packs add a nominal 10.08 kWh, three add 15.12 kWh. Actual operating time depends on the load profile, and the expansion packs do not increase the W5-E's 5 kW continuous output rating.

Frequently asked questions about the S5-BAT expansion battery
Can I use S5-BAT without a W5-E power station?
No. The S5-BAT is an expansion pack and does not include a standalone 230 V inverter. It requires a compatible W5-E host.
How much energy does one S5-BAT add?
Each module adds 5,040 Wh or 5.04 kWh nominal capacity. A W5-E combined with one S5-BAT therefore has a nominal total of 10.08 kWh.
How many S5-BAT modules can I connect?
The existing SEV system documentation allows up to three additional modules. Together with the W5-E's 5.04 kWh battery, this results in up to 20.16 kWh nominal total capacity.
Will extra batteries increase output beyond 5 kW?
No. Additional packs increase stored energy and potentially runtime, not the 5 kW continuous output rating of the W5-E inverter.
Is the connection cable included?
Yes. The SEV product summary lists a supplied 0.8 m system connection cable.
Is the S5-BAT rated IP54 and splash resistant?
No. The SEV product metafield specifies IP21 for the expansion battery, while the W5-E host is IP54. Protect the battery module from rain, water spray and weather exposure.
May I connect the pack while the W5-E is running?
No. The original safety instructions require connection and disconnection only with the host switched off. Connector contacts must remain clean and dry.
Is S5-BAT compatible with the W5-E RCBO model?
The S5-BAT is specified for the W5-E product family. Check the exact connector and revision of the particular RCBO unit before ordering or installing.
How much longer will a 5.04 kWh expansion pack run?
At an average load of 1 kW, the nominal extra storage represents about five theoretical hours before conversion losses and reserves. The actual load and complete W5-E system determine runtime.
Choose the right W5-E power station
The S5-BAT is sold as an individual expansion battery. It requires a compatible LYS W5-E power station for use. The SEV shop offers the standard W5-E and the W5-E RCBO model with combined residual-current and overcurrent protection. Check the precise host revision and expansion connector before ordering.
